Brad Pitt’s Make It Right Foundation debuts a 1,000-square-foot house that can float on water in New Orleans. Here’s a look at the week’s news on land-based properties:
Actor Richard Gere and his wife, actress Carey Lowell, sell their Hamptons house for $5.9 million. The couple first listed the home in February for $8.8 million and cut the price to $7.2 million in June. The traditional house has seven bedrooms and seven bathrooms in 5,500 square feet. Known as Too Many Maples, the property has several large maple trees, a heated pool, a guesthouse and an artist’s studio. Mr. Gere and Ms. Lowell, who own another home close to the Hamptons in North Haven, N.Y., purchased the home in February 2001 for $2.75 million and renovated it. (WSJ)
Meg Ryan relists her Spanish-style house in the Bel-Air area of Los Angeles for $14.2 million. The actress had originally listed the property for $19.5 million in October 2008 but took it off the market in February. Built in 1931, the restored home measures 6,877 square feet and has six bedrooms and seven bathrooms. (Los Angeles Times)
Jewelry designer Suzanne Sheik, mother of Broadway composer and pop singer Duncan Sheik, lists a townhouse on Manhattan’s Upper East Side for $17.5 million. The five-story home measures 7,000 square feet and has 15 rooms, including six bedrooms, six-and-a-half bathrooms, a parlor room with 14-foot-ceilings and a garden. Ms. Sheik bought the 1880s-era brownstone in 2007 for $8.5 million and hired craftsmen who renovated it for two years. (WSJ)
Architect Daniel Libeskind, who designed the master plan for New York City’s World Trade Center reconstruction, starts a project to build 30 homes around the world with a parcel in Ticino, Switzerland. No two houses in the project can be built in the same city. The architect, working with a German manufacturer, is offering the Ticino villa for about seven million Swiss franks ($6.8 million). The hillside home overlooks Lake Maggiore and will feature a zinc facade and the angular protrusions for which Mr. Libeskind is known. The 5,400-square-foot house will have three bedrooms, three bathrooms and a guest suite. (WSJ)
Director and producer Jeff Margolis lists his 1927 Spanish-style house in the Beverly Hills Post Office area of Los Angeles, Calif., for $3.495 million. The 5,234-square-foot home has five bedrooms and seven bathrooms, as well as arched passageways and open-beam ceilings. Located on one-third of an acre, the gated property also has a pool and a sports court. (Los Angeles Times)
Danielle Staub of Bravo’s “The Real Housewives of New Jersey” lists her custom-built home in Wayne, N.J. for $1.45 million. The seven-bedroom home has a billiards room, two laundry rooms, a tanning room, a gym and a cabana. (Zillow)
