Open Question: Should I repair the transmission or look at getting a new car? February 9th, 2010

admin

My car just recently had issues where I had parked, turned it off. Came back out to the car two minutes later and started the car up without any problems and then put it into reverse and backed out of the parking space and then put the car into drive and hit the gas pedal. All that happened from me pressing the gas pedal was the engine revving up and acting like it was in neutral. I wasn’t able to do much from there, so I put it back into reverse and backed it up into a different parking spot and left it there until I got it towed home.

Now the question is should I get it towed to a mechanic and see how much it would cost for repairs and go down that road or should I think about selling the car to a junk yard. The car is 2000 Hyundai Tiburon. I also just put 4 new tires on it, just replaced the alternator and battery about two months ago, everything else about the car is in good shape and it has about 140,000 miles on it. Would it make sense to put the money in the car and keep it running or think about scrapping it and taking out a loan to get some form of new/used car?
